Overall Murals

Overall Murals, a unique sign painting company from Brooklyn, New York, design and implement epic murals on a diverse selection of buildings and public spaces (inside & out). Their larger than life art generates a great amount of advertising buzz around town. A wondrous site to see, these hand painted images are known to be accompanied by astonished crowds of NYC pedestrians. Overall Murals’s inspiration comes from street-art, NYC life, modern graphic design and traditional sign painting.

This project’s goal was to build a custom responsive WordPress theme, based on a previous design, that is mobile ready and visually expansive, matching the larger than life nature of their work. Theme is built from the ground up and employs a number of custom modifications to WordPress’s editor to achieve the desired layout, and also, to create a smoother admin experience for managing content.

Candescent Films

Candescent Films produces award winning documentary films that examine a wide range of important cultural, social and political issues. In 2010, motivated by interests in social injustice and a passion for film, Lilly Hartley founded Candescent Films to support film makers who courageously aim public attention towards relevant, and often overlooked, volatile issues arising in the world today.

In Spring 2104, I began developing Candescent’s new website (with initial designs by the prestigious Ro & Co) utilizing the Squarespace platform. It’s a heavily modified theme utilizing both Squarespace’s interface and front end code (HTML/CSS/Javascript) for interactivity, content management, responsive functionality and social media sharing. From time to time, I also edited various film promos and designed updated page layouts.

VMWARE

During the last half of April 2015, Televerde (a corporate sales & marketing firm) contracted me to design an email pitch, and landing page, for VMware’s (cloud and virtualization software company) new Horizon 6 software/service promo campaign. The goal of the project was to create responsive layouts with increased visual appeal, focus and “call to action” for their new content/service. I was asked to create two different versions: A.(safe) based on VMware’s current branding, and B.(experiment), a “free rein” design with a new style approach. Client was delighted by both designs and ended up implementing version A.

Out of the two, my favorite was version B. because of its updated/refreshed look and personality that most likely would be very appealing to their audience. Both versions I had to create graphic assets(icons, promo images, etc.), but put the most time into B. because all of the visual content was created from scratch. Below is drafts of version B.

Kinfolk V1

Kinfolk is a unique life-style company, based out of Brooklyn, NY, who have become a multicultural phenomena by producing unique merchandise and experiences. Their signature product is custom hand crafted/high profile bicycles whose frames are molded and constructed by a traditional Japanese sword maker. They also have a full clothing line, shop, cafe, restaurant and bar that hosts parties and events.

Back in fall 2013, Salah Mason created designs for a new Kinfolk website and I was selected for the task of developing it. The site is a custom WordPress theme, built from the ground up, with a focus on content flexibility and mobile design. I made a number of modifications to the back end to create the layout needed, and also, create a better/more efficient admin experience managing and posting content.

Kinfolk V2 SHOP

During first half of 2014, Kinfolk introduced a new clothing line and store. To meet customer demand, they needed an online store. The following summer I designed drafts, then later, developed the new e-commerce extension. Focus for the design was visual aesthetics, responsive functionality and usability for the visitor and content manager. Drafts of preliminary design included below.

Tutorial Modules

I have created a few interactive modules for tutoring web code, and for clients, how to use features and manage content for their site. For myself, one of the best ways to learn is by example, and I have had good success, and feedback, creating these tutor modules, and in turn, offer it has one of my services to clients. Examples below were created a few years ago and are in need of a refresh(design/code) for the future!
